I would say that the support for single mom's to do there job as a single mom is much easier for women, being a single dad I have fought my work to reduce my hours, I had to spend a lot of money on lawyers to get close to 50/50 time, I get 42% of my sons time, it was settled out of court after I spent over $50k on lawyer fees, so coming from where I stand I think its so much easier for women, the courts support them so much more than they do men, the work force does not support men being dads either. So being a single dad and posting up as much as a single mom, I would say he either had to fight for the privilege or he was lucky and enough to get it freely by the courts and work force.

Terrific post! A rational, balanced view of why single moms and single dads often get an unfair shake in the media. Yes, absolutely, it's not about status (single, married, or whatever), it's all about responsible parenting. Thanks, Barry!

I agree Angela. The adjustment from married to single parent is huge. As you mentioned, key word "parent" not single. Thanks for dropping by.

i would say both single dad and single mum deserve same recognition.
Adjusting from married to single is already a big challenge. As a parent, we do not have the luxury to enjoy the life as single, but have much more responsibility as a might-be sole carer. So every single parent is great in terms of looking after him or herself and the little ones.
The reward is huge, being sharing with nobody else the love from kids, and the feeling of achievement.
