There is a lot more expected of single dads than people know. Even if the kids are not residing with you, you are assumed to be available 24/7 should anything "arise" from homework questions, last minute child pick-ups or teary arguments with mom. If you are otherwise occupied when the bat signal goes aloft, the questioning your whereabouts and distractions begin.
The number of times my kids have told me my behavior has confirmed my ex's position the children have been abandoned simply because I did not answer the phone (regardless of whether I was with a companion, our for a run, or taking a satisfying dump) have been numerous.

Setting aside 'hedonistic' time where you are not on duty for any reason is essential to keep a man from going completely bonkers.

Sleeping in past 7 am what are you thinking! I remember those soccer mornings and tournaments. If you don't take care of yourself, you can't be fully present for your kids. Good for you! You are doing it right.

Loved this post! It's so true! My child started spending most of the summer split between grands's homes out-of-state, and it gives me time to regroup in my personal life. Hedonism in my world is sleeping in past 7am on a soccer Saturday! I know I'm among the really lucky ones to get so much time, but I refuse to feel guilty about it! Loved the advice...heading to the mirror right now to tell it just how cute I really am!
